One of the most important things a philosophy major can do is learn to write well. I suggest you take courses in writing and composition because it will open the world of publishing to you.

Like religion majors (I am a religious "scholar" for lack of a better word), philosophers are very limited by their education as compared to those who study the more practical subjects such as business.

As a fellow philosophy major, I can tell you that it's a great degree, no matter what people tell you. I worked at a law firm for a year after school before applying to graduate school. Entry-level business jobs are also good options.

Aside from teaching, there's not much without and advanced degree. Being able to think more clearly than the average person should be a skill that employer seek. You just have to sell yourself and your abilities.

Good luck!

My philosophy proff in college actually had a real classified ad seeking philosophy grads to help a computer company with artificial intelegence. Basically the job required that you have excelent logic skills so you could help programmers and developers foresee logistical "thinking" errors the computer may have. So you could look for something along that line.

It is one of those degrees that looks good to help you get into grad school. Getting a job based on just an undergrad Phil degree is hard. You'll need to write well and get lucky. Being a teacher is ok, but you'll need a masters to teach college.

Bottom line: if you plan on going to grad school you're fine. If not, consider minoring in Phil and majoring in a more applicable field.
