What would be the best way to format/get rid of all information
off a hard drive so I give it to someone or sell it.
So that the information that I had on it won't have a good chance
of being viewed by whom ever gets the hard drive.

Shred all the files with McAfee shredder, or zero-out the hard drive (zero-out is on Disk Utility on macs, and norton might have it, i don't know)

Hi eightbfan,

Formating any drive or deleting files does not get rid of the data. It just changes/ modifies the file system structure. The data is still there. I can easily get a data recovery program and get everything back to the way you had it. You should find a software that will write every byte of data on the drive as it formats or a software that promises you it will do something similiar.

People have already replied with some good software suggestions so I won't add it anymore.

Hook it up to a computer and right click on the drive and click on format. It will do all that you ask for.

Get a Big Magnet, Seriously that would work.

You could also try the "FDISK" command in DOS
