I am an old age pensioner...6 months ago I did not know what a window was and had never been near a computer.I bought one on a whim and set about studying. Now I am talking RAMS.REG CLEANERS ,VIRTUAL MEMORY AND LOTS MORE.If you are in England go to your local Library..they are a mine of information...
The BBC web pages are wonderful...there are loads of tutorials and help there.Start off with ask bruce...this will direct you to other information.Use Yahoo Answers BUT be wary not all of them are sensible...some can be quite harmful. There are loads and loads of very good books if you have time to read them...All the COMPUTER BOOKS FOR DUMMIES are great...even I can understand them. Most important of all play about with your computer...don't be afraid...you will make many mistakes but you will learn from every single one.Make it all fun...I have learnt more in the last six months than I have in the last 20 years. If I can help with any small problem please contact me.Best wishes.

go to barnes and noble and find a couple good books. for starters,i would get a thick Comptia A+ book. the A+ certification covers all the basic concepts of hardware and major software. although getting the certification does not mean anything huge in today's workforce, knowing all the principles behind the technology will make it much easier to build your computer knowledge. after the A+ book, it's all up to you which other areas you want to learn about.
