it's not a bad alternative to having sex with your partner if there's some reason that you can't do that. In this case, though you'd be masturbating your partner and they'd be masturbating you.
If you're talking about a bunch of people sitting around in a group masturbating themselves, that is a little weird, but whatever turns your crank, I guess.
