There is a whole subculture consisting entirely of black people (usually poor, and in gangs), listening entirely to rap and hip-hop. Rap and hip-hop stem off of ska and Carribean music, which were predominately genres of music black people listened to, in the first place. It's not racist. It's a fact of life. That's why, when you see a white rapper people call them a -beep-, because it's so different from the usual. And that part, is racist. But I'm confusing myself now. So I'll stop talking.

No, they are not racist. Black people tend to listen for/to the beat (its the beat that makes you like a song initially/usually) and rock/metal typically doesn't have any defined beat or rhythm to it as rap does.
*Hip Hop is not so much a type a music, it's more a culture that is partially composed of several diffrent types of music.

We don't really listen to that type simply because we don't exactly understand that particular expression of angst and aggression. We prefer to vent with rap, whereas most white people prefer rap to achieve the same ends. I think it's more of a cultural thing than anything else. As for rap's increasing popularity with white culture, and rock's inability to do the same; all I can say about that is that maybe bored kids from the suburbs have fantasies about living a harder, "more interesting" life and rap is one way for them to vicariously experience it.

I don't think it is racist!! I think that some white people are trying to fit in (not be black). Rock music is accepted by blacks look at lil'jon he is about to make an album entitled Crunk Rock which combines the two music genres. So again, blacks accept rock we just don't listen as much.

I don't believe they are racist, I believe it is based on the music they were raised up on. Most blacks grew up on blues, jazz and the younger blacks are growing up on rap. Blacks that listen to the rock/metal more than likely have a lot of white associates. But in all honesty, we each get to choose what we want to listen to and who we want to be around. The choice is yours.

Well in my opinion it is because black people think they have to support other black people in their endevors. Also I believe they are afraid of being harrassed if they do listen to rock/metal. I had a friend who was black and she was big into the punk and skater music. She was constantly made fun of other black people because she hated rap and refused to dress the way her fellow black peers did.

white people are forced to hear rap/hip hop because that is the only type of music played on Mtv, the radio and every other freaking place that has music playing.
