no it's not an algae bloom because i recently had an algae problem and the water turned green and i dont think someone would play such a mean trick that could harm ur fish it could be that ur filter or something is rusted. i would clean out whole tank plants, rocks, caves, etc if the water turns orange again take a sample out of the tank and take it to ur local pet store they can tell u wut it is also dark link is wrong only change 1/3 of water a week because fish have a water cycle

IT is probably dissovled organics. If you have added any type of wood or peat, that will stain the water brown. A few water changes and some carbon will get it out.
If not, test the water immediatly. If you dont have a test kit, get one, the aquarium pharm master is excellent. Do you have good filtration? Did a fish die on you. Or maybe you are overfeeding. Solve the problem, and do lots and lots of water changes. 15% daily is a good place to start. Then at least 25-50% weekly. The more the better

if you used well water and it has a high iron content this will happen. It usually settles out withing a day or gets in your filter cartidge. It also gets on the glass making an orange appearance. Scrape it off, clean gravel, wash out filter and such. Filter water or used another kind before use. It takes a few hours for it to come out of the water that is why it appears later. Our well is iron and it comes and goes in badness. Especially in the summer when the water table is low.

Have you added any driftwood or other "natural" ornaments to the tank. Items like that leach tannins that will turn the water orange or brown.
Another thing is if you just did water changes and are on public water. Did they flush the water lines in your area before you did a water change. This will also turn your water funny colors.

Possibly an algae bloom, tannins from a new piece of wood (not bad, but ugly), or something metal rusting in the tank. I'd do a 50% water change, and make sure your carbon filters are fresh.

(Most likely) Bad water pump? it could be time to get a new one.
(Somewhat likely) Something in the tank is doing it
(Least likely) Someone played a prank involving orange juice or orange soda

Run some activated carbon for a few days and the water will clear up.

Is it fresh or salt? It sounds like some sort of algae bloom.

maybe you cleaned it with some different stuff. Anyway if it's clean now, I would contact your nearest acquariophile who can give you more detailed information of what happened.
