You can only have a war if there is a definitive enemy...so this is just rhetoric, nothing more, nothing less -- and I've yet to ever see a REAL winner in any war. There was never an intention to have a quick war, unlike his daddy...why else would you build 17 permanent air bases, and the world's largest embassy building? I think this is part of the plan to set up the home for a world government, meanwhile, the war profiteers are raping the world of its resources; animate and inanimate.

We will win in Iraq eventually, but as far as winning the war on terror all around the world, that is not possible. As long as there are extreme zealots for any cause, there will be terrorists. There are new ones cropping up every day and there is no way that we would be able to get rid of them all. We can win in Iraq and Afghanistan, but not globally.

In order to win the war on terrorism we must win the hearts and minds of the Islamic world, something which we have not done very well lately. Terrorism itself is a result of poverty, lack of real education, and brainwashing by dictators and corrupt religous authorities. It is just not as simple as " They hate us because we're free". The only true way to stop terrorism is not to just kill a bunch of people, although killing is part of the equation, there are different parts to the problem. First you must recognize the real causes of terrorism and terrorist activities, once you have identified these causes, you must start working on ways to eliminate these causes, one by one. For instance, you must contribute to formal education in third world Muslim countries that does'nt center on spreading Islam, this means that we must stop condoning governments that endorse such teachings such as Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Also we must start showing a more fair and impartial hand to the Palestinian- Israeli conflict. We must admit that a large source of the funding for terrorism comes from oil, and other commodities that industrialised nations have a hard time giving up. Last but definitely not least, our country must undertake a massive espionage and intelligence operation to infiltrate Islamic schools, mosques, and other Muslim gatherings, in order to gather enough information on extremism to know when and where to hit them if need be. Our military intelligence agencies need the ability to put agents and operatives into action all over the globe at any particular time if needed. Once the ability to distinguish and discern who and where the enemy is has been established, we will be in a better position to fight the actual terrorists. Some people mistakenly believe that terrorists are only in countries with a Muslim majority, and they also believe that it is possible to take care of extremism through military means. If this were the case, than the situation would be taken care of in a much shorter time period. Unfrotunateley this is not the case, terrorism does not concentrate itself in one country or even continent or specific ethnic group, this is why there is a desperate need for a military agency which is capable of striking at the enemy where ever they maybe, without regard for borders or the political stance of the particular nation in regard to the US. This does not mean we should have free reign to send an army wherever we want, but it does mean that we should be able to insert a small highly trained search and destroy reconnaisance group into a sovereign nation with or without that nations approval or knowledge if need be. We should take extensive efforts to locate terrorist organisation leadership and financial resources and be on a constant mission to eliminate such leadership and freeze and reallocate such assets. If these things are done under the right leadership with the right amount of self scrutiny, in about twenty to thirty years Islamic terrorism may no longer be anywhere near the amount of a threat that it is now. Some of these steps may have already been taken without the public's knowledge although the current administration does not seem to have the foresight, resolve, or intelligence necessary to undertake all the steps needed to win this war. This current administration seems too eager to please certain "allies" rather than take the hard line required to bring about real change in the region, it also does not seem to place the proper amount of importance on certain aspects of fighting the war and seems to misallocate military manpower to areas for reasons other than the sole benefit of America, also it seems that our current intelligence programs have not been given the resources or direction in order to end this war properly and efficiently. If our government does not take a more vigilant and intelligent stance on terrorism, it will mean more dead civilians here in the U.S. and elsewhere. We will most likely win the war, but it is a matter of how expediently and how efficiently the war is won. I would just like to add that I am a proud Democrat, and alot of idiotic numbskulls buy into the BS that Republican politicians spew about Democrats not caring about national defense and not having a plan, well here's my plan, it might be a little too complicated for some folk, but to me and I'm sure a whole lot of military people who are pushing for such policies, it makes some sort of sense.

What America is doing wrong in the war on terror is the same as the other wars you stated.
You cant win either using bombs and guns.

Winning the "war on Terror" is like winning a race that doesn't have a goal. You can run as fast as you want, but you can't win, because it can't end.

To win the war on terrorism, we (collectively - meaning all nations, that is) first have to honestly define terrorism and address the quest without hypocrisy!

No. I have a feeling there will always be terrorists and terrorism, and if not, we'll change the rules so that certain groups "fit in" to that terrorist mold. I would elaborate, but I just want my 2 pts. now.

I really do think its something they can "win" so far they just seem to be annoying more and more people, and as long as people have free thought theres going to be people who disagree with others and take it to a violent extreem
