Surely they can. If you remember, God said that he will use all things to bring people to him. For instance, one of my favorite bands is a Christian heavy-metal band. They write uplifting lyrics and have a great style, but to call their music non-christian just because you don't like the style is, I'm sorry to say, close-minded. One of the glories of God is that he speaks personally to all of us, and what brings you closer to him (traditional music) might not work for me, but what works for me (rock music) doesn't work for you... it just simply means we have different music tastes but not that whatever we listen to isn't true Christian music. God made all the world and all the people in it, and he made everyone different from one another. Why would He have done this if He wanted everyone to worship Him in the exact same way with the same music? We all find God in our own way, and I'm glad there is such a diversity of music out there to honor Him (isn't He the source of ALL inspiration anyway? including all forms of music?). You don't have to like it, but don't put God in a box and say only this or that is pleasing to Him... open your mind and your heart towards others, and see that God uses all things for His good.

Word to the Sav'ya, yo! This is probably only a matter of opinion, but I'd say any music that celebrates Christ's life or message, or even simply espouses Christian dogma can be considered Christian music. As long as it speaks of something Christian in a positive light, it doesn't matter what form it comes in; it's not just hymnals any more. The advent of newer forms of Christian music is in recognition of the fact that modern youth aren't as interested in the old songs as their parents or grandparents, so the music has be made "fresh" for modern ears, but it's still Christian.

I think it's great that Christian music has branched out from the easy-listening genre. People today have a wide taste in music and if you want to preach to the masses through music then it only makes sense to utilize all forms of music to do it. Most of the protest comes from older generations that still haven't acclimated to the youthful nature of today's evangelical movement.

As long as the artist's music is coming from the heart and is uplifting, music that praises God, and is pleasing to God, it's Christian music. No certain "type" of music is evil--what makes it evil is what the artist of that song puts into his/her lyrics.

yes, it can be any style. At least in my opinion. Why would a style take away from the lyrics if they hold a Christian message?
"The Houseplant Song" by Audio Adrenaline is about this topic. I love that song. haha.

That is NOT true at all...as long as the lyrics are there to lift up Christ and God's glory....then it is okay.
