Yes, it will be possible to alter human genes and their expression. Research into gene therapy offers hope to people affected with genetic disorders, e.g. Huntington's Disease and Cystic Fibrosis. WRT preventing death, I think that human life span will be greatly increased, for rich people anyway. This will cause a lot of problems for the rest of the world's population, leading to resource shortages. People can be very selfish and greedy and will justify to themselves their right to an extended life time. Death is part of the natural life cycle. In saying that, I still wish people the chance to a peaceful and happy life and not to die before their time. However, unless we can sustain ourselves in space and find other planets that support life, we will need to die at 90-100 years, to make room and leave resources for the next generations.

i think that if there is a genetic problem in the family, and a member of the family wants to reproduce, the sperm or ovule (egg) whichever the problem is in can be altered, as there is only one set of genes to alter. This happens before fertilisation, and then when the cell is fertilised it performs mitosis (cell division) normally, and the genetic problem does not occur in the baby. It would be impossible at the moment to do this to a living person as you would have billions of cells to alter. i doubt we would ever be able to prevent death. I am not 100% sure of this answer, but I hope it helps

Altering genes is going to be difficult and expensive, but we can easily change the RNA expression so we can have alterations on HOW proteins and other molecules are built, for example we can develop more muscular mass by over expression of actin-miosin complex via just simple injections of mRNA!!!!!!!!

People are working on that as we speak. We just recently mapped the whole human genome, but it's going to take a while before we can actually alter it and make changes to it.

I hope not because if we could prevent death, everyone would try it and the world would be a horrible place - too many people and too much pollution.
