The Dodgers are the best team in baseball because they have a long and storied history. They've been around longer than the Yankees, the NL has about a 25 year head start on the 'junior circuit'.
When they were in Brooklyn they made it to the World Series several times but always seemed to lose to the damn Yankees. Until "Wait til next year" became 1955. That year an aging Pee Wee Reese, Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, Gil Hodges, Don Newcombe, et al brought the WS trophy back to the burough. You could walk down the middle of the street and never miss a pitch, EVERYONE had the radio tuned to Red Barber and the Dodger broadcast.
They moved to LA in 1958, played before 93,000 in the coliseum on Roy Campanella night ( Roy had been paralized in a car accident in the off season and never played a game in LA) and won it all in 1959. Against the Go-Go White Sox.
Dodger Stadium was built in 1962 and has been one of the most beautiful ball parks in the major leagues ever since. Vin Scully has worked for the team for over 50 years and I can't think of anyone I'd rather hear talk about baseball.
There have been hundreds of great players, Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, Don Sutton, Orel Hershiser, Fernando Valenzuela, Kirk Gibson, SteveGarvey, Davey Lopes, Bill Russell, Ron Cey, Mike Piazza, Paul LoDuca, Pedro Martinez, Shawn Green have all called Chavez Ravine home.
The Dodgers are great because they have the best uniforms and team colors. Yes, I bleed Dodger blue. No need for butt-ugly pinstripes...
I'd rather sit at Dodger Stadium and watch my Dodgers lose than be in any other park on this planet. I'm excited that the farm system is finally being used correctly again. The kids, Ethier, Martin, Kemp, Billingsley are the future.
Why are the Dodgers the best team in baseball? The true fans are loyal, you'll see them in the ballpark even when the team stinks (3,000,000 year in and year out) like they did last year.
The Dodger Dog is the perfect ballpark food.
The view from the Stadium is of purple and gold mountains, not skyscrapers or an airport. I could go on and on, but I know in my heart I'll be a Dodger fan for the rest of my life.

First of all, I'm glad to hear from someone who isn't a Red Sox or Yankees fan on here! I love the Dodgers and always will.
Right now, they're not doing so hot, especially after losing 3 straight to the Twins. I still think that the Dodgers are going to turn themselves around and start winning again, and I know they've got enough depth on their roster to take the toughest division in baseball: The NL West. The trade they made for Mark Hendrickson and Toby Hall is a great one for them, and not just because they got rid of Jae Seo! Hendrickson has led the Devil Rays in wins the past two seasons (yes, I know that it's only Tampa!), and Toby Hall can be a solid backup to Russ Martin at catcher.
If the bats can get hot again, the front office makes another trade to bolster the bullpen, and Eric Gagne can return to his usual form, the Dodgers will go deep into the playoffs.

Gee. They aren't. I can think of several teams that are much better than the Dodgers. The Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees, the Detroit Tigers, the Chicago White Sox, the Oakland Athletics (Ouch!! I feel your pain!!), the Saint Louis Cardinals, the Cincinnati Reds, the New York Mets all have better pitching, hitting and defense than do the Dodgers.
Sorry. I just have to call them as I see them.

Because Dodgers had their first black player Jackie Robinson on their, he helped his team won the World Series, also fought against their hater, New York Yankees. Before the team moved to Los Angeles.
I think now Dodgers and Yankees are still fought for many years.

They are NOT and NEVER will be the best team in baseball. For now, it's the White Sox, until someone wins the 2006 World Series.

They're not. Detroit is by wins-losses (54-25). The hottest teams are right now are Boston (won their last 10 games) as well as the top three teams in the AL Central Division (all 9-1 over their last 10 games... Minnesota has won 11 of 13).

I think Joe Mauer (11-13 for the series) and the Twins just proved that little theory wrong. Not to mention our pitching completely dominated the team with supposedly the best AVG in the MLB.

They ar edefinetly a team with a great history, but they are not cutting it this year. Maybe next year that high payroll will pay off.
