It definetly depends on where you live. I paid $5 a class/per week (so about $20 a week, depending on the level I was on), $15 for ballet shoes, $50 for tap shoes, $100-something for pointe shoes, and I don't remember what the jazz shoes were.. You can find leotards anywhere, you don't need to go to a special store for that. Hell, you can use a one piece swimming suit if you feel like it.

I hate tutus personally. I prefer the flowing crepe (or something) skirts that go to your knees in the back and are shorter in front. They're prettier.

Skins are usually around $7-8. I always liked the shiny nude colored ones the best.

The expensive stuff are the costumes for recitals and performances. Easily $100.

Depends where you shop. You can often find basic leotards for very reasonable prices at Walmart. Target has a nice line of dance wear also that is a little more expensive. I've often found excellent buys on leotards at thrift shops or some really fancy ones cheap on Ebay.Walmart and Payless Shoes now carry lines of ballet shoes for around 15 dollars. These things are for children from about age 4-14. You should be able to get the basics for 30 to 35 dollars.Adult stuff is of course, more, and as far as I know the chain stores don't carry adult sizes On the other hand, if you want something more unique or really top quality shoes, you could easily spend two to three time that much.Hope that is helpful. Classes depend totally on where you are and how often you go. Enjoy!

You can get really cheap lycra leotards for less than $20 a piece. However, most of these feature very unflattering cuts, and do not include shelf bras, so if it gets cold in the classroom... You can buy cheap tights, but they're not run-proof, so one snag and they're gone... My suggestion would be to buckle down and buy the better made clothes. They will last longer and you will feel better in them.

Your best bet is to shop online. Most dance store boutiques charge entirely too much. For example, I can buy a leotard from Dance Distributors for around $25 that I saw in the local boutique for over $40. Same brand, same everything. Just be sure to mind all of the different sizing charts when you order online. For some reason, the sizing is all over the place.

If you're only just starting out, most teachers will allow you to wear casual comfortable clothes until you're sure you want to continue on. If you do want to carry on, you'll need flat ballet shoes NZ$50, leotard $60 and tights NZ$15. A few hairpins, a bun net and maybe a crossover for winter NZ$75.

It honestly depends on where you are and what the prices are in your area. I paid $40 for my leotard,$30 for my jazz shoes and it was $45 a month,I believe, for hour long jazz lessons. We weren't required to have tights.
