Absolutely! Understanding the political system and isolation of the individual. Probably more relevant today than in 1984.haha Especially with the unification of Europe into the EU etc.
It is definitely a must read.
Its impact isn't instant but over time its effect is obvious. Political 'spin' equals Truespeak etc.
Knowledge is power after all.
Enjoy!

I had to read that as part of my English Higher, great novel, easy for conspiracy theorists to get carried away with the idea of a megalomaniac government, but it's scarily relevant if anybody is familiar with modern "security measures" such as the 'Patriot Act' in America for example. Great read. Every bit as good and relevant as it was when written. Have to admit, unless you're big on literature it might not be to everyones taste.

This book is one of the greatest ever written. I love it. As others have said, it is just as relevant today as it was in 1948 when Orwell first created his apocalyptic vision.

READ IT !! It is amazing.

Most definitely. It's a very thought-provoking novel, considering when it was written.
Agree with sam above, but also read 'The Handmaid's Tale'. We'll keep you busy!

I read it a while back and was expecting more than I got because my mum had hyped it up so much...but it's worth the read just so that you're more informed than many other 'Big Brother' viewers!

Yes, as gives an idea how good Orwell really was. Even his foresight was brilliant but patchy.
