When should we make an appointment for a pre-conception check up?

My wife has her yearly exam 7 months before we want to start trying, so can she go to her regular family doctor who is also a gynecologist, or does she need to make a separate appointment with a OB/GYN?

Do I need to go to my regular doctor for anythign?

Also what do they do at these appointments?

Your wife won't have to go to the OB clinic until she is already pregnant. This is what I did, I made a preconception appointment shortly after I quit my birth control pill which I took for 6.5 years. I made an appointment with my regular medical provider, I talked to her about pregnancy and she put me on the prenatal vitamins, if your wife has some extra weight on it mught be a good time to get back in shape, I also did some lab tests to check my liver, kindnees, thyroid, cholesterol and sugar. A month after my preconception appointment I found out that I was pregnant so the first thing I did was to go back to my clinic and take a pregnancy test. I was already 5 weeks pregnant, so I took a pregnancy test and my doctor gave me the results of my tests from the month before and everything was great! The OB clinic where I live, won't give you an appointment until you are 8 weeks pregnant so I called and i got my appointment today, they did more tests to check for my iron and a urine test to check for protein in your urine and things like that, I got enrolled in the clinic and they told me that my first ultrasound will be at 11 weeks which it will be when they pick up the baby's hearbeat. So, if your wife can start taking the prenatal vitamins right now it will be great, because that will help her assure a healthy pregnancy and she will have very little chances of a miscarriage. Have her eat healthy food, and tell her to stay away from diet stuff, she should excercise, but not too much, twice a week is good enough. Good luck guys!! Oh taking the prenatal vitamins right now, will also help her with her ovulation once she quits her birthcontrol.

It's difficult to say exactly how long it will take any one individual or couple to get pregnant. Factors such as your age, general and reproductive health, and when you have intercourse all impact your chances of conceiving a child

However, these general statistics may give you an idea of how long it will take. Normally fertile couples have a 25 percent chance of getting pregnant each cycle, and a cumulative pregnancy rate of 75 to 85 percent over the course of one year. Still, some healthy couples can take even longer to get pregnant

And you can try to increase your likelihood of getting pregnant sooner by learning to pinpoint exactly when you ovulate, and by familiarizing yourself with the cyclic hormonal and physical changes that take place in your body each month.

I have included some links for you so you can do some reading and research on your body. OVULATION IS THE KEY TO GETTING PREGNANT! Remember that. These are the steps you need to take...
1.) Make an appt. with an OBGYN (or your current GYNO is fine) He or She needs to give you a complete exam and make sure you are having regular periods, that your tubes are unblocked, and that you donot have anything else that may cause you to not get Pregnant ie...sexually transmitted diseases, PCOS, ect...
2.) You need to make sure that you are ovulating. Belive it or not, some women, do not ovulate. And as I said, Ovulation is the KEY to getting pregnant. To do this, you should buy a Basal Themometor (you can buy at almost any store where they sell regular themometors.) and start taking your temps EVERY MORNING BEFORE you get out of bed. to read more about this, check out this website for what they have to say about it.. http://www.mamasark.com/bbt.htm............
3.) you also need to learn to check your Cervix Position AND your Cervial Mucus everyday. To learn more about this check out these websites... http://www.webwomb.com/check_cervical_po...
and
http://www.webwomb.com/cervical_mucus_pa...
4.) Once you have got this all down you need a place to chart them all so that you can keep track of what your body is doing and when you ovulate. www.fertilityfriend.com is the best place to do this. It is a free site and it allows you to chart your temperature, your cervial mucus and position and helps detrmine when you ovulate.
5.) As for the man, some doctors will do a Sperm Analysis if you request to have one done. Basically, they ask for a sample of the mans ejactulation, and they will send it to the lab and look at it under a microscope and count the number of sperm and see how many are good, and how fast they swim. Do not be upset if your dotor will not do this right away. Most doctors tell you to just relax and 'try' and if in 1 year you are not pregnant, then they will do a sperm analysis. But just insist that you want one done because if there happens to be a problem, you would want to know now and not in a years time. Every month is precious time.
6.) Some easy lifestyle changes you can to are, Stop Smoking, Stop Drinking, limit your caffinee to 2 cups a day, the female should start taking prenatal vitamins, and try to eat healthy, exercise and get a decent amount of sleep each night.

*********OF COURSE YOU CAN ALWAYS JUST DO IT THE OLD FASHIONED WAY AND HAVE ALOT OF SEX AND HOPE FOR THE BEST! LOL But for your best chances, these are the steps you need to take!!*************

~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~PLEASE REMEMBER!!!! Even a 100% healthy couple only has a 40% chance of conciving each month, so dont get discouraged if it doesnt happen right away, even if you do all the things above. Just have fun with it, and do not make sex a chore or a job, just relax and enjoy eachother, and when the time is right, you will get Pregnant!
Good luck to you and TONS OF BABY DUST YOUR WAY!!!!! *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

She needs medical help after she becomes pregnant. So far there is no indication that you have any medical problems. You are still in the stage of planning to have a child.

To get pregnant you must have sex on a day that her eggs are being released.

After the 3rd day from the day that menses started put a thermometer into her mouth and check your body temperature every morning before she start turning in bed. The best time is at about 4 a.m. Maintain a chart. You will find that on one day the body temperature drops from 1/2 degree to one degree. This is the day that her eggs are being released. If you want to get pregnant this is the day that you must have sex. Remember that you must ejaculate on your inward thrust so that the sperms will shoot deep inside.

After having sex she must stay in bed for about 30 mins with her knees bent up with a pillow under her buttocks so that the sperms will not pour out - to enable them to travel up.

You must to save your sperms in the testacles for at least 5 days before sex to enable them to mature well to do their job.

A regular ob/gyn checkup would be perfect. This way they can make sure she has a clean papsmear. There's really nothing special that they'll do at this point...except maybe prescribe a good pre-natal vitamin for her :)

Good luck to you!

NOTHING ELSE REALLY, THEY'LL PRESCRIBE HER SOME PRE-NATAL PILLS, AND MAYBE SOME IRON PILLS. ALL U GOT TO DO NOW IS HAVE UNPROTECTED SEX, AND WORK U'R MAGIC ON HER. HA HA HA!!!!! THEN THE FAMILY DOCTOR CAN CONTINUE TO SEE HER BUT ON A PRE-NATAL BASIS. BUT CALL AROUND TO SEE WHERE SOME FAMILY OFFICE DELIEVER, IF U PREFER A CERTAIN HOSPITAL. JUST TO LET U KNOW CHIRST IS A GOOD ONE. WELL IN CINCINNATI, OHIO THAT IS. CONGRATS, AND GOOD LUCK

I think she should see a OBGYN. The tests all depends on the person (it varies)

Good Luck
