So I have this swimming test where Im suppose to do the survival float for 5 minutes. I was in the ocean and I did it fine floating and breathing but when I went into the pool my legs kept sinking straight down. Now my little sister had no trouble foating face down but my legs kept sinking. What can I do to get my legs to at least stay somewhat close to the surface.

The thing is im relaxed and the upper portion of my body floats fine for some reason though my legs just sink to the bottom of the pool and drag the rest of my body along with it. Is there anyway I can practice to get my legs to stay up?

The reason you floated better in the ocean is because the density of salt water is different than regular water.

Think about keeping your hips high. If you're on your back, press the back of your neck/head to the bottom. If you're on your stomach, it's very natural for your legs to sink slightly. Just keep your hips up!

for some reason this happens with some of us. just kick your legs when you float, when they go down too far. the teacher will probably not dock you for kicking your legs. as you do more swimming you won't be doing the floating as much so, don't stress.

Keep your body straight and flat You are getting nervous if your feet are falling into the water just chill and think of something relaxing

the most important component is to stumble on the fashion to relax in the water. once you're comfortable, it really is way a lot less complicated to flow. at the same time as studying how do swim freestyle, the most important component is the kick. with no perfect kick you'll conflict to stay afloat. to strengthen your kick you could initiate through using fins in the water. this may help strengthen your flexibility on your ankles to boot as make it a lot less complicated to stay afloat. good success!

Salt water weighs more than fresh . your legs have less body fat so they will sink . Practice kicking with a splash . this will help streamline .

you need to take a deep breath and hold it, that'll keep your upper body up, then try and keep straight, and don't breath out.
