Assuming a rectangular hole (they are really hard to dig) it would be

4 x 4 x 3 = 48

Each cubic foot is equal to about 7.48 gallons.

The hole is 4ft * 4ft * 3ft which equals 48 cubic ft.

There would then be about 7.48 * 48 cubic ft which is 359.04 gallons.

Depends on the shape of the hole, and if it was full, and possibly if there were some rocks in the bottom.
