The sharpest edge known to science, as far as I know, is broken glass. I have seen articles, though I cannot, myself, vouch for their accuracy, that claimed some edges have been measured at less than 20 molecules across. I have seen demonstrations of traditional Aztec obsidian bladed weapons that demonstrated a cutting ability equal or better to any sword in my experience, including the Katana or Damascus scimitar. The drawback of obsidian is it's brittleness, you don't have to replace a steel blade after every fight.
