So I want to buy the MacBook, and I'm using it for college (papers, photos, music, INTERNET!)..

What is the difference between the 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo and the 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo? Does this mean one has more memory or it is faster? If so, is it worth the extra price?

Also.. does anyone have either of these notebooks?

What do you think of it? (good and bad)

How long does the battery last?

Are programs loaded and ready to use out of the box, or does the system need to be set-up and installed with a series of CDs?

I don't have the MacBook, but I have the PowerBook that I purchased last summer and I love it. It is absolutely ready to go out of the box. The battery life is not great, depending on what you are doing I would say 3-4 hours.
If you are just going to be doing standard stuff, i.e. word processing, iPhoto, surf the web, iTunes etc. then 1.83 GHZ should be fine. If you are using more sophisticated graphic arts or music editing software you might want the 2.0, The difference is the speed of the processor.
Good luck, hope you enjoy it!
Yahoo is Mac compatible BTW

My husband works with macs for a living (he's a computer tech for the school district, and they use macs). He can't stand them. You end up putting far more money into them to get them to do what you want them to. I have to hear his spiel every night when he gets home from work. :)

He does say that if you are just using it at home to check e-mail/surf the net, then they're just as okay as any other computer. However, if you want to play serious games, use them in a network, etc, you should just go with a pc.

My Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop is great. The battery lasts 5 hours and I've had it for almost a year. My husband has the Dell Inspiron 8600, and he's had it for 3 years. He is on his second battery, but his laptop is on 24 hours a day, and he runs it pretty hard. These are good alternatives if you decide macs aren't for you after all.

He does have some great websites that review Macs, so when he gets home I'll ask him for some links and come back and edit. They are not biased towards pc or mac, so they'll give you a pretty honest assessment.

Oh...one last statement he always tells people: The only Fortune 500 company that uses macs is Apple. The rest of the business world uses PCs. That also might be an influence, depending on what career you have in mind for yourself.

4gb of ram and a 200gb rough force may not come on a macbook with out flipping out a few additional cash. A macbook professional could have the specifications, and 17 or 15 inch monitor, however the brand new one is handiest 17 inches. it's $2799. The macbook has a thirteen.three inch monitor. The macbook white, or the older mannequin is $999. The new one is $1599. On the macbook, you are watching at a minimum of $2000 with the facets you wish ($1500 for the white). The handiest variations, are not any proper mouse click on constructed in, greater techniques (iLife '09), much less video games, and greater image stuff. The thing more is that macs can legally run home windows, and mac os x can handiest run on apple machines (legally) I might get a macbook upgraded

It depends on why youre buying it. I've been on Mac for years, and I absolutely love it. Then again, I do use it for editing movies and music tracks, one of my friends just bought a Mac just so he could say "YEEE HAWW, I got an iMac DOOOOOD!!!!", and still has no idea how to use it.
