If you marry someone and then don't put any commitment or work into the marriage. Most people just think marriage is supposed to be easy so they get lazy and don't put any effort into it. Of course, it's not marriage that ruins your life, it's you that doesn't put an effort into your marriage. If you do put effort into your marriage and it doesn't work out, it won't ruin your life because you know you at least tried.

If it is abusive, either physically or mentally, and you stay in it. There are many ways to ruin you life with a marriage, the best advice is to date for a long time before you contemplate marriage.

Marriage can ruin your life if after the ceramony one partner tries to change or control the other. Some people feel that since they are now married that they now own they other person and that they can dictate to them what to do , wear, or say.
That is how marriage can ruin you forever becaue even after you may have trust issues

it can take a perfectly fine relationship and screw it up. a relationship where the two of you enjoy spending time together, talk to each other, have good sex and change all that.
when your still just dating and the other person stops making you happy you just put their stuff in a box and say "get the hell out." after you're married breaking up is 1000 times more complicated. because of that marriage makes people stop trying to keep their partner happy.

You get stuck to someone who changes totally.
You divorce and lose at least half your sh!t, plus ruin children's lives, plus the family may judge you.
You lose freedoms sometimes.
Your spouse makes you give up the activities you love by harping on it to death until you'll do whatever they say just to get them to shut-the-f*ck-up.
But it can also be wonderful!

If you forget the commitment that you've made... to love, cherish, understand, support, and nurture.
Once you forget what your duties are and start to be selfish.
A husband's job is to make his wife feel good, and do all things with her feelings in consideration.
A wife's job is to make her husband feel good and to do all things with his feelings in consideration.
Once you start to think of YOURSELF,,, the marriage is over.
