Ted Dekker has an awesome trilogy for you called "Red", "White", and "Black". Pretty sure that's not the right order, but my husband and I both devoured them and then read everything else he's written. In fact, maybe I'll read them again this summer....
There's actually an interesting story about one of his books. He started writing it with one of his friends when they were in high school and never finished it. Several years later his friend was driving to meet up with him to continue (or finish) working on the book and the friend is killed in a horrible car accident. The unfinished book is found in his effects and Ted Dekker finally finished it and published it with a beautiful acknowledgment in the front. I can't remember the name of the book though...

I like the Mitford series by Jan Karon.
They are set in a small southern town. The characters are quirky.
Karon doesn't preach in the novels.
Her central character is an Episcopalian priest, Timothy Kavanaugh. There are Biblical quotations sprinkled throughout, but the reader isn't overwhelmed with them.
She deals with realistic situations: child abuse, death, illness and treats these problems with dignity. Nothing is 'wrapped up' neatly.
I hope this helps.

Back in high school I read a series about a group of teenagers who form a volunteer group. They were from all different backgrounds and faith wass discussed prominently. I don't remember the title, it was like something Creek I think. They were enjoyable fluff.

I've read Frank Peretti's This Present Darkness, Piercing the Darkness, and The Oath. Wonderful stories. They really give you something to think about.
It's been many years since I've read them, though, and I forgot about how good they were until you asked this question. I'll have to buy them and read them again

I have. It was called the Bible.
No offense intended. Just a matter of personal opinion.
