I presume you mean the so called "fruity" tone, not the stereotypical lisp, which some guys have and some guys don't, gay or straight.
I'm not sure, but the cutest gay bois have the fruity tone, so I didn't care when I was young and I still don't. But it is interesting. I don't think its a studied phenomena (in the sense of deliberate) at all.

Not all gay men speak with a Lisp. A lisp is a physically problem and plenty of gay and straight men have them. This once again is hetros trying to stereo type gay men.
