Ugh yeah. We look at ourselves in the mirror all day everyday. We see all the blemishes that noone else may see. Just about every normal girl thinks that they need to lose a few pounds.

I am a normal weight person and proud but the only thing that bothers me is my stomach. It sticks out too much and I want to get rid of it. I know someone who weighs a lot less than me and wants to lose weight. I almost died. If she exercises for an hour she'll turn into a stick. So, yes, there are girls that have feelings of being fat when they're not.

All the time and it's sad.

About five years ago, I was a camp counselor at a sleepover camp and one of my charges, a thin, beautiful 12-year-old girl, began to show signs of anorexia. After talking to her about it, I realized that she had been battling the illness/disease, whichever is more preferable these days, for years now. That means she was weight conscience at 10!

It's awful to think young women are noticing the body types that make it into print advertising, television and films at such a young age.

I usually feel fat and bloated a week before my p-dot. I feels absolutely disgusting, even though I am totally not over-weight.

The dreaded p-dot is the curse of girls thinking they are fat!!!

Yeah, it's very common.

I just watched that movie with Lindsey Lohan (sp?) called Mean Girls...One of the behind the scenes things talks about this subject...

It said that one of the reasons girls (and later women) feel bad about their bodies is all the images we see in magazines, TV, Movies, and Advertisements. (I know everyone is thinking "Duh!")

The other part they talked about it how the other girls reinforce those rules so much stronger than the initial source (media). So TV might initially make someone feel inferior, but when a bunch of girlfriends sit around with each other and talk about what feature they each hate the most about themselves it really strongly reinforces the mentality that you have to hate some part of yourself in order to be socially acceptable.

OR Else you risk the scrutiny of your peers. I.E. "She thinks she so hot. But everybody knows her _____ is disgusting."

It's totally part of girl culture, we kind of do it to ourselves.

The problem is that some people think they're thin when they're actually fat, and use short tight clothes and hurt everybody's eyes... but it pisses me off when a skinny friend tells me she's fat, i just think "omfg... then I'm not fat but HUGE!!!" and believe me, it hurts very much.

all the time and i hate it. skinny girls have no reason to think they're fat....and it makes even less sense for them to say they're fat when standing next to someone overweight. it's ridiculous and selfish...i think it's just basically a call for attention--to get someone to say they're pretty...how disgusting...

Somewhere between 99% and 100% of girls think that way about themselves sometimes.

they worry that they are too pudgy to flirt effectively.
