The PlayStation 3 (プレイステーション3, Pureisutēshon Surī?, abbreviated PS3) is Sony's seventh generation era video game console in the PlayStation series. It is the successor to the PlayStation 2 and will mainly compete against Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii. The PS3 will be released on 2006-11-11 in Japan and 2006-11-17 worldwide, and will ship in two initial configurations.

The PS3 was officially unveiled on 2005-05-16 by Sony during an E3 conference, where the console was first shown to the public. A functional version of the console was not at E3 2005 or the Tokyo Game Show in September 2005, although at both events, demonstrations were held on devkits (for example Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots) and comparable PC hardware, and video footage based on the predicted PS3 specifications was produced (for example for Mobile Suit Gundam).[citation needed]

Currently there is no PS3 available anywhere. There are pre-production testing models within Sony, but these are only for pre-production testing, and aren't the actual PS3 units. Some people get confused with the PSX which came out a couple years ago, and was a multi-media home entertainment unit that would play cd, dvd, ps1, ps2, had a built in hard drive and capability to run certain television signals. This was released only in Asia, and was very limited, as it did not do very well.

The PS3 is currently in a state of confusion as to when it will actually be released, mostly because of Blu-Ray. Blu-Ray is currently not as available as many companies would like, and there are literally only a few thousand discs floating around right now for testing between the major companies. Later in the summer there will be mass quantites available, which means that the major companies will be able to start pushing more production for games on the PS3. The unit itself though, is more than likely going to be stalled until around the same time that the WII comes out, in late fall/early winter.

A person that works at game stop tells me that a ps3 will be coming out in october there taking a sign up list if you reserve 3 games you have to put $15 each game the games will be about $60 or $70

The ps3 costs $599 and the games will probably cost $60 or more. Who knows how much extra controllers will cost.



Sony will be losing 500 dollars on every ps3 sold, they'll have to make up that money some how.

no later in the summer and if u want 2 get it go to a eb games close 2 u and ask 4 2 recommed u 4 a ps3 and it cost about 500$ the ps3 alone

November 17th. I work at gamestop and I can tell you I dont know of any Gamestop or EBgames in the country that is taking reserves for them. Everyone else is right though, they will be $499 or $599 and the games will be ~$60

Not yet. I heard that many programmers are frustrated with the new system because it requires (or supports) an additional type of coding and many programmers and unexperienced with it. You can probably expect few games in the beginning.

Last I heard it was going to come out Nov 17th or Oct 17th but they can always change the dates again and again... only the shadow knows for sure...lol :)
