Me and my family were planning on visiting relatives in Chicago. We would be getting off at Chicago Union Station. I was wondering if someone could in order of visit list the places worth visiting in chicago (historical landmarks etc.)

Taste of Chicago is something to stay away from UNLESS you go early. I think it opens at 11 a.m. daily. Check it out for the first few hours, then get outta there 'cause it'll be CROWDED. It's a bit pricey but you can find some deals. And don't be afraid to try different foods. That's what it's all about.

Anyway, you're getting off at Union Station.

If you REALLY want to avoid the crowds at the Taste, then go have lunch in Greek Town, just west of the station. There are several restaurants from which to choose. My personal favorites are Rodity's and Greek Isles. I like Rodity's 'cause it's a bit smaller and homier. However, both offer yummy food and WONDERFUL PROFESSIONAL service. Really worth it.

You'll need to walk off the lunch. So head back east. If you want to go to Sears Tower, go ahead, but the lines are bound to be long on clear summer day. If that doesn't do it for you, just keep walking east. If you're mosey a bit north to Washington and then go east, you'll walk by City Hall and Daley Plaza, where the Picasso is. From there go north one block to Randolph and again head east. You'll pass Marshall Field and Company on the corner of Randolph and State.

Continuing east you'll hit Millenium Park. Hang out there a while. It's really, really nice. The Taste is just east and a teeny bit south of there.

Again, if you prefer to avoid the Taste, just walk north on Michigan Avenue (which borders Millenium Park). It's simply gorgeous. You'll be heading towards the Wrigley Building. North of the Chicago River are all the shops and boutiques and bigger stores (like Virgin Record Store). Consider taking a water tour. You can board at Wrigley Tower.

Wear comfortable shoes and bring bottled water. You'll get thirsty.

Avoid Chicago for the next two weeks at all costs. The taste of Chicago is on. Busiest place on earth will be here these next few days. Other than that.

I like:
The Shedd Aquarium
The museum of Science and Industry.
The Main Chicago Public Library Building.
The Magnificant Mile.
Water Tower Place.
Riding the EL.
