It's the pine tar players use for their bats for better grip...it gets on their helmets everytime they adjust it, take it on, take it off...some playesr likd vlady use the same helmet every year, game in and game out so it looks pretty nasty...like Trot Nixon of the red sox, and ozzie guillen used to do the same when he played
