(White entertainment television), there would be an uproar? I just wonder when all of us are going to stop being racist.

Funny how people keep calling me racist! I am stating a fact here. For those of you who claim that the other channels are "WET", show me just exactly where the station says "White Entertainment Television".

Fantastic question! You touch on a much feared truth about the present: there is (at least) just as much racism in the media against whites as there is against blacks. Look at your first answer for proof. It will be interesting to see what the general consensus is to the question by people of color.

Happily, there are some exceptional black folks who see this double standard, and are sickened by it. We don't yet live in a color blind society. But there are people out there of all skin colors who see this as a goal to continue to more toward.

Keep moving there yourself.

When MTV was created, it did not show any black videos. It showed only rock and pop. I believe that Michael Jackson and Prince were nearly the only two shown on the network for many years. (do you think that was racist?)

In response to this BET was created after MTV. At first it was just a two hour block of programming before it became a network. It would show mostly R&B, which was not being shown on any other network.

Since, music have evolved. BET plays mostly gangster rap and less R&B. That is just the way it is.

This would not be a problem if blacks weren't discriminated against in the first place. Now, we have a channel for different types of music. Have you seen the Country Music Channel? Rap, R&B, rock, and pop have no business on that channel. That does not make the channel racist. Not at all.

Think about radio stations. You know which ones play the type music that you like. They each cater to a different audience. It does not make the station racist.

I"m sure if you used your brain...you wouldn't have to ask this question. If you look at your local television program, it's already based in white american culture. Here in Los Angeles, you already have white programming : 2,4,5,7,9,11, and now 13.
But why single out blacks...why is the magnifying glass only on this ethnic group...if you're going to question something so dumb, be an equal opportunist. Why are there television stations for Hispanics, Asian and Europeans in the United States.
BET was started because in the early 80's...before MTV played black music, and before Yo! MTV RAP, there was a want for black music to be heard by it's listeners...BET just capitalized on it. It's not racist...they're making money in this capitalist society.
So besides...if you don't like it, turn you dumb people.

The reason why there is a BET is because for a long time the only faces you see on TV where white. It was like black people did not exist, and the programming on TV was ONLY gear towards whites. That is why BET exists. BET is not a racist channel, they do not promote hate. What they do give my people something to watch on TV. Do research before you start calling someone a racist.

I would think that the "Black people need special treatment" people would all tell you that the rest of television, for the most part, is already WET.

Non-blacks will never, completely, 100% be thought of and treated as total equals until everyone stops demanding special treatment for them. That may or may not be right, but it's true. Think deeply for a moment about what Affirmative Action is indicating about people. How can certain people be equal if they consistently need special help?

I know that's not what A.A. means to portray, and I'm sure it's not generally true, but that is the subtle message sent throughout the country. And, with the state of our education system, most people aren't smart enough anymore to not accept that subtle message.

You have a good point, but at 12.5% of the population, African Americans qualify as a "niche" market. So in a way, BET is just a specialty channel, like MTV or something. You don't have to hunt around for "white" programming content, you silly goose.

Whether you want to believe it or not, EVERY channel is WET. There's a such thing called white privilege, I think that's a very ignorant question to ask honestly.

I think black people feel under privledged just because they had to be slaves for us. I mean that was like a hundred years ago. They also have a month dedicated to them. February is black history month. They say that we think lower of them but i think they bring it on their self by acting all sad and stuff. Don't you agree?

BET is not racist. But you are ignorant. I'm going to play along with ignorant and say for what your ancestors did to my ancestors I should be able to come inside your house and rape you and your mother. And your needle dick dad should sit back and watch with a smile on his face while I spit my watermelon seeds at him.
