Cat:
Needs less attention
Doesn't have to be let outside
Don't need to be groomed as often

Dog:
Happy to see you
Have to take him outside, but you get exercise too
Easier to train
Actually do tricks
I think dogs are more friendly...sometimes you get a fiesty cat that just wants to hiss and bite new people...dogs are more welcoming
Dogs are just all around more fun in my opinion...They can use the bathroom outside which is a major plus

Wow..it amazes me how many people think cats are always these aloof loners who look down on their people. I love both cats and dogs. I have had cats most of my life and if you are affectionate and attentive to them, they will return it to you and then some. My cats are major lovers and want to be next to my husband and I all the time. Dogs are harder to maintain, but fun in the sense that you can take them with you places and go for walks, etc. Whichever you choose, please adopt at a shelter and also have them checked for heartworms (cats and dogs). Our stray cat that we just took in has heartworms and it is not good. Most people don't think cats can get it, but they can and it is very hard for them to survive. Also, think about adopting an older pet, as they are sometimes looked over and they make wonderful companions, especially because they appreciate the second chance you have given them.

My grandfather said you never own a cat. You'll get a lot more love and company out of a dog. I wouldn't get a little yappy dog, though. I've known too many of them with "small man syndrome"--they try to prove that they can lick anyone in the room (pardon the phrase).

Cats are loners, so they require less people time,

However, dog love being around people and it would not be healthy for them to just be left alone outside, or not have any activity with humans. They requires lots of people time.

I prefer Dogs :D

loyalty and companion ship come out of a dog while cats are self-obsessed. however it truly depends on the ammount of time you are willing to put into caring for an animal. cats take little care while dogs take loads, choose a pet that wont effect your schedual as much!

I personally raise dogs. So, of course, I feel that puppies are the best choice! With love and attention, they will become the most devoted, loving, fun, and cutest addition to your family!

cats are easier to train (they can be trained to do tricks, most people just dont try to train their cat)
if you brush your cat, it wont have many hairballs
you dont have to take cats for walks all the time
you wont have crap all over the yard to step in
cats can even be trained to go in the toliet (it takes time, but it is worth it)
they are quieter.
they dont jump up on people, or slober, or lick your face.
you dont have to give them a bath
they dont eat as much
if its an inside cat you wont have to worry about fleas.

well kittens are a bit easier because they have a litterbox where as puppies you either have to clean up papers all the time or clean up poop and pee till he/she gets used to going outside to go pee. both make great pets IF treated properly please whatever you choose make sure you take it to the vet for shots and the nessesary tests. and when its old enough get it spayed or neutered as well.
