First anniversary is PAPER. So either make him a paper mache sculpture, or get him some gorgeous stationery. Another idea is to take him to a really fancy restaurant and get the menu ahead of time and give him the menu then go to dinner.

What u should do is take him out to dinner and then get him something he really likes and then get a room at a hotel and then put candles all over in the room and have a romantic night

I think the first year anniversary is paper, so you might want to frame a photo (wood, paper, whatever ;) ) of a specific moment that is important to both of you or perhaps get the two of you tickets to a show or sports event that you know he wants to go to. Sharing in his interests along with your sharing in his life is a definite way to make it memorable.
Or, y'know, indulge in his favorite sexy fantasy. ;)
