They were a girl group. The tv show was "The Banana Splits" They were these big puffy puppet costumes worn by actors. The show was one of the Sid & Marty Kroft ones.

Bananarama was an all-female rock band in the 80s

Cruel Summer was their breakout hit, and they also remade Venus, and I thought their version was HOT.

Sometimes overshadowed by the Bangles. Sigh.
