its one small step...is the official first words spoke on the moon but i've been thinking that the actual first words spoke when a human being was in contact with the moon would have been buzz aldrin saying ''contact light'' The probe was touching the moon which was attached to the LM which the lads were in.what do you think?

Well, technically, anything said inside the LM once it touched down were all words spoken on the moon. But Armstrong's words are most special because they were spoken by a person actually on the moon. So I think that's what people mean; the first words of a person on the moon, you know, touching it.

But nobody could dispute your logic about the absolute first words spoken on the moon.

There are audio and video tapes of this. You could probably find them on the NASA site, I assume.

Neil Armstrong wanted to say "That's one small step for a man. That's one giant leap for Mankind," but he screwed it up, no doubt in his excitement. He actually said "That's one small step for man. One giant leap for Mankind." In any event, the moon landing is probably man's greatest event to date. When my four year-old nephew lands on Mars, that will be the greatest event in human history.

I think that the walking part makes it more official but I will say this. Neil screwed up his line. He said, One small step for man....When he should have said, One small step for "A" man...one giant leap for mankind.
