Plants contain chlorophyll to photosynthesise. These are green so the plant looks green. The more complicated reason is that plants use light energy in photosynthesis but they only use red and blue light. This leaves green light which is reflected away so you see the plant as green. (Primary colours in light are red, blue and green)

Question: Why is grass green?
bryan a nance
Answer:
Grass, as well as most all plants on Earth, contain Chlorophyl. This
is a pigment which is essential to the photosynthesis process and is
formed only in the presence of light. It is found within the
Chloroplasts of the plant. In general, grass appears green because the
only color light that is reflected from the grass is the green. This is
just a characteristic of the plant. You could say the same thing
about any color paint, or anything else.
Ask me again if you need more detail.

Can anyone actually say what is 'green' or any other colour for that matter?
I mean supposing we could network our brains and see what each other is seeing, green as seen by you might look like blue or red through anothers eyes.
Just because we are told that a specific shade is a particular colour we accept the truth but can't prove what the colour actually is.
So I think the colour of grass is 'named' green, but could actually be any visible colour as viewed by any particular individual.

Grass is green because you put the brown side down. If you don't it doesn't look very good. Don't know why...brown is a perfectly splendid color...guess you've got to go with the Jones' though...

Chlorophyll. This is the same stuff that makes all green plants green. It is also the stuff that allows plants to convert C02 to Oxygen so you can breathe.
That is the basics..
