Why is it that Welfare is going to lazy non-workers and the rest of us who could use help dont get it?

I have a neighbor that keeps a job for a month and then gets fired. Last time she got fired she was sleeping in a work truck parked in the company's garage. That was last summer. She is now pregnant with her 3rd child. She receives WIC and gets $284in food stamps. They're stealing cable and our internet connection. She sits on her couch all day long with her kids who are CRAZY! She complains she's hungry and bored. She gloats about all the free stuff she gets. ITMAKES ME SO ANGRY, its not fair. My husband and i work so hard and struggle while she's on easy street.

LET ME ADD SHE'S GOT A MAN THAT SOMETIMES PULLS IN 1200A WEEK! SO YES EASY STREET BABY! HE BOUGHT A BRAND NEW MOTORCYCLE!! HE GETS BONUSES.

welfare is a big problem NOT gas tax...you can't be serious. We as taxpayers pay for these programs. i'm with the turning her in...

Turn her a_s in. By doing nothing you are feeding the problem and by not ratting her out you are allowing one more bum the ability to dig into our pockets. The fewer people we have to support the more we get to keep for our families. Let the Welfare fraud line know that she is living with a man that makes enough to support her and her 3 kids; they will investigate and act if necessary.

... well, to be fair, almost every government program is abused by some group... probably welfare less than others... as far as overall dollars abused... (like your neighbor is getting WIC and $284 in food stamps... while some corporations are abusing government assistance programs for billions... like the oil companies who are operating tax free and getting GRANTS 'free money' from the government at a time when they are making all-time record breaking profits)

I'm not saying what your neighbor is doing is ok... and welfare reform is clearly needed, but I'm not so sure it's our greatest problem right now... for instance, just if the oil companies alone were taxed, it would probably generate enough money to take care of the vast majority, if not more than, the money abused by welfare recipients)

Well, if she is pregnant *hopefully* the money is going to feed & care for her children. We don't choose who are parents are and I *hope* these children can rise above thier mothers example.

But - I doubt she has it good. 3 kids and $300 in food stamps a month?? That isn't easy street.

Don't let her get you angry. Just ignore her and better your situation.

What are you doing to better your situation? It would seem that if you focused less on what your neighbor was doing and more on what you could be doing then maybe you would be in a better place. You can't be that busy if you can spend so much time worrying about her. Get a life.

I see this very thing happen all the time in Indiana. If someone really needs help they cant get it because of all the lazy azz people that are getting it all. I worked for 25 years working on cars and now that i have became disabled i can't get my disability Ive not been able to work in 5 years now but Ive also NOT been getting anything. Now 5 years later my savings are all but gone and I am told that it could be June of next year befor they even make a decision on my disability so what am i to do. NO its not fair I mean I payed it in why can't I get it now that I need it........Its because all of them lazy people are getting so much that you have to be on your death bed befor you can get anything and then you mite not get anything......

Non-Medicaid means-tested assistance (assistance based on income-level this includes welfare, food stamps, etc.) makes up approx. 6% of the annual Federal budget.

Private income taxes make up 38% of the estimated 2006 Federal income.

The Federal Annual Budget (est.) for 2006 is $2.57 Trillion.
Thus, $154 Billion is spent on assistance.
Thus, individual tax-payers pay $59 Billion toward assistance.
Thus, with approx. 140 million taxpayers in the US, that means each person pays an average $418 annually toward assistance programs.
"Welfare" - type assistance programs make up 2.5% of the Dept. of Health and Human Services budget.
Thus, each person pays approximately $10.45 toward "Welfare-type assistance programs".
The highest estimate I could find for money lost to abuse was 17%.
Thus, the average taxpayer loses an average of $1.77 a year to welfare abuse.

Still, report her. She is abusing a system meant to help those in dire need for a limited time.

Final note: States that Privatized their Welfare distribution system saw an increase in expenditures (largely due to abuse) of nearly 70%.

I understand your anger at your neighbor, but before you go on a tirade assuming things about everyone, you need to re-focus your anger on things that are costing your family more than $1.77 a year.

Damn that is so TRUE i really need the welfare help or anything! im working 2 jobs and going to medical school and school takes up 1 check! and More so that means i barely get enough money to do what i want without having to go under the table or doign it my self at home. something has to be done about this!

report her to cps if she neglects the kids and to welfair if she is bring in any money while gitting welfair they cant bust her if they dont know what she is doing the system sucks for all of us like you and your husband who walk the line and fight for each dollar . i know a girl been on it for 12 yrs each time they try to make her go to work she bangs out another kid and right back into the system she not missing a beat ..
