Any change in the exchange rate reflects some sort of change in the money supply of the country. Unfortunately, the workers and people within a country have no control over the money supply- only the central bank does. If the supply of AUD increases, the value of it decreases, and if the supply decreases, the value increases. Conversely, if the demand for the AUD increases, value increases, and if the demand for AUD decreases, value decreases. Actually, the demand aspect of it is almost negligible in the modern economy, because most modern economists (and IMO, incorrectly) think that devaluing the currency by increasing supply is beneficial because it encourages exports. I will leave it to you decide whether or not this is actually beneficial or even morally correct. Essentially, they increase the money supply, basically robbing you of your hard earned money (not directly but by devaluing it) because they think that it will somehow benefit the economy. Of course they don't realize that even though you export more, you are getting less value per export and consequently it nets to zero or even worse than zero because you don't get all the money that comes from the increase in supply. Dumb dumb dumb

Always use xe.com...it is the most accurate currency exchange on the net, although you can never be sure until you reach your destination. Reality seems to show that exchange rates are always worse once you arrive.
