If you're really constipated and laxatives aren't working, try a glycerin suppository. They're cheap, you can get them from any pharmacy, and they're really effective. I know it sound disgusting shoving something up your butt, but if you're really constipated you'll be prepared to do it because it's really uncomfortable. It works within about 15 minutes.
If you've tried all the usual things like increasing your fibre and fluid intake and taking regular exercise and none of them have worked, see your doctor who will prescribe you a mild laxative to take regularly for a while to try to regulate your bowel habit. The laxatives you buy over the counter are usually stimulant laxatives which can cause bad stomach cramps and are quite harsh on the bowel, whereas a doctor will probably prescribe a bulk forming laxative which is fairly natural and gentle on the bowel.
However, it's worth being aware of the fact that it's considered normal to open your bowels anything from three times a day to once every three days and constipation is actually defined as the difficult passage of hard stools, rather than the frequency with which stools are passed.

Eat a high fibre diet, tons of fruits, veggies and whole grains, make sure you are eating well.
Drink lots of water and get some excercise to help peristalsis ( the natural muscle movements of digestion).
Take metamucil every day if need be, and then try a Dulcolax pill or milk of magnesia if you havent gone for 3 days.
Consult a doctor; that could cause serious harm to your body if you let it go a long time.

try lots of prune juice, if you tried laxatives and other purgatives and your not having any movement you might want to go to your doctor and have them do a kidney test to make sure your kidneys are working properly. You need to look at what your eating to, try eating foods for the next couple of days that actually promote movements as well as bulk for the fecis. Fiber, lots of water, prunes, there are countless foods you could eat to produce a movement. But just to play it safe, see your doctor and see what he or she recommends.

Drink a lot of water, try to eat more things with fiber, like apples and bran, and take some fiber supplements, such as FiberCon or Metamucil Casules. If that doesn't help, definitely go to the doctor! Don't be embarassed about either! They see it everyday!

Get a massage therapist to do work on your abdomen, they can literally make you get up from the table to go, I know because I am one and I have helped out some of my friends with this problem. It's nothing hokey, just literally helping things move along.
Also, this sounds like you may have more going on, if you have this problem often, I would be seeing your doctor. Good luck!

You, seriously, need more fiber in your diet because you are headed for disaster and towards life-threatening diseases. Eat lots of fresh veggies and whole grain foods. Drink LOTS of water, too. Just a friendly warning.

see your doctor or a nutritionist as quickly as possible. until then drink lots of water and eat lots of fiber like "kashi" cereal, fruits and veggie ... stop taking laxatives, they can cause cramping and make the symptoms even more painful... it's not like they're working anyway!

You may have IBS ( irritable bowl syndrome ) theres medicine that can clear that problem right up. You definately need to get it checked out. All of that crap inside of you is only getting harder and harder. Its kind of like having the walls of your colon lined with concrete. I get colonic cleanses and trust me after you have had one you will feel terrific. Not only does it get all the crap out of you it also helps you drop access wait, up to 20lbs. Make sure you get checked out and good luck.
