I'm not sure what would happen to the economy. I don't think the impact would be severe. However one thing for certain is that as soon as the immigrants were gone we'd find another group of people to blame a lot of woes on. You know the funny thing is immigrants wouldn't be illegal if we hadn't written any laws stating that they were illegal. That may be a better question. How do you feel most's view of these people would differ if the laws defining them as illegal were never written? Or conversely. Are the laws there because of a prejudice towards these people? Do these people act as they do because of the presence of the law? Do these people act as they do because of a bias that exists due to the presence of the law?

Nope, but wages would certainly go up. Minimum-wagers would be in greater demand so they would be often earning more than minimum wage. Some would get laid off, especially in places that cater to illegals now, extra workers hired to cash paychecks for those who don't have bank accounts because their phoney IDs won't pass or those who make money-wire transactions to family in Mexico. Then too, sometimes Americans earning minimum wages are earning that because the law won't let employers pay them what they are really worth, so not everyone will get a raise.
As for shutting down? Get real, they aren't that big a piece, that and notice when they did their May Day strike, most of the country didn't notice or pay attention. We probably had more people purposely watching that Soccor thing (which wasn't much in the USA) than purposely looking for strike news that day. Sorry, the Democrats will miss them most because the hoped to make them all voters for their party, but even they won't be slowed in the slightest if all the illegals were somehow suddenly teleported to their original homelands and no longer present.

There would be ten million people less to drive on our roads, clog our emergency rooms, there would be three million less on welfare, there would be fewer farm workers, lawn maintenance crews, chicken processing factory workers, construction laborers, and fast food workers. The overall impact on the economy was demonstrated recently in California during a "Day without a Mexican". The freeways were clear, the emergency rooms open and a handful of businesses shut down. It would not drastically effect any business except farming and mechanization and the hiring of American labor for a few more dollars an hour would be absorbed within a short time and result in a 10% increase in food prices.

Darren- The economy would slow down and prices would go up. For instance...now that the immigrants aren't picking fruits and vegetables for less than minimum wage, someone else would have to do it and they would have to start paying minimum wage or more. Meaning that produce would be a lot more expensive.
Charles - Are you that ignorant. To let you know...and it's a fact...there are more 'Whites' living off of welfare than illegal immigrants.
Iloveroybee- If you seriously believe that there would be more jobs would you apply for them:
Fruit picker
Cook
Gardner
Liquor store attendant
Come on...If you have the ability to get the job you want it doesn't matter if THEY are here illegally. They aren't after your job, they are doing the jobs that no one else wants.

First we are never going to have mass deportations, so as this is basically a thank you to muddy the waters. If super numbers of illegals desperate to self deport, filling the hollow would not be a project, human beings international extensive could pay to come again to the country, so after a quick time of disarray, we ought to technique those we deemed needed for the roles that we desire. it can be a special thought for us to made the alternative in accordance with what's robust for this ourselves as a replace of the illegals making that selection for us

no, absolutely not... although some family run businesses would not be happy about it for a little while. the bottom line is that illegal immigrants haven't always been a problem. IF by some act of God they were all suddenly missing from our economy, it may stall or sputter for a month or so, but eventually the economy would right itself and life would go on.... humans are adaptable, we would adapt

Lots of lawns would get tall, and I might be able to order a cheeseburger from someone that speaks the same language I do.
But it will never happen, it is unrealistic. And I don't even know that it is fair to deport them all. Most of the people on government cheese want to be on government cheese, they don't want to work to begin with. And that's not a racist comment, I mean ANYBODY, white, black, green, yellow, brown or purple.

The economy would probably slow down for a brief period of time, but I seriously doubt that it would shut down entirely.
