USA Today's Weekend Magazine voted these the "sites that best help you understand" the USA. You can find any of these places by searching for them on Google.com
Gettysburg National Military Park
Acadia National Park
Gateway Arch
Statue of Liberty
National Civil Rights Museum
Brooklyn Bridge
Acoma Indian Pueblo
USS Arizona Memorial
"Hollywood" sign
I would also add the Grand Canyon, Yosemite Nat'l Park, and all of the historical sites in Washington DC and Philadelphia.

Depends on what type of sight seeing you want to do. Are you looking for historical places? Entertainment? Natural wonders? The US is just too big to list everything there is to see.
