From what i understand, its impossible to get a FALSE positive, as a certain hormone has to be present to make both the blue lines (or whatever) appear on the test. If the test is faulty then you can get a false negative.

Id say youre pregnant (congratulations!) so get yourself back to the doctor.

If he wont do a test for you then (a) hes an idiot and needs to be reported to the GMC (General Medical Council) for bad conduct and then (b) go to another doc within either that practice (doctors surgery) or in your area.

Good luck!

The best way to know for sure is a vaginal ultrasound. If your doctor won't do it, try another one. You may have an underlying cause, maybe a miscarriage in progress or a more recent pregnancy that is too early to detect. You could possibly have an infection, like PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease) which could be causing irritation in your uterus that may be preventing the onset of your cycle. You should also look into getting on some kind of birth control, if it turns out that you are not pregnant. Being on BC helps regulate you monthly cycle & it can lower your stess level as far as worring about being pregnant. At any rate, the vaginal utrasound will give your doctor all the information he needs to treat you.

When your doctor tells you that you are not pregnant, you should believe him. After all, he is a professional.
Having said that, no one is perfect and mistakes can always be made by anyone.

34 days late is quite long. So I would be concerned as well.
If your doctor has done his job, there should be another explanation for your delayed menstruation. If you want to be absolutely certain, see a gynocologist and have another test.

When you are in Portugal, take things easy and do not drink much alcohol, just to be on the safe side. Drinking alcohol does not do you any good anyway, but it can be especially damaging during a pregnancy.

And if you are still in doubt in Portugal, you can always see a GP or gynocologist there.

Stress can make the test come out positive or negative when it's not, and can cause you to miss a period. Go to your doctor, or try another, and explain the situation. There could be medical issues causing this too. There are some STDs that can alter pregnancy test results as well so getting a full check up is important.

Best!

Its very common to get false negatives but extremely rare to get a false positive. If you've gotten a bunch of positives, the positives are probably right and you're probably pregnant. Just think of yourself as pregnant and be careful when travelling. Also find a different doctor so you can get a second opinion. Maybe the test the doctor gave you wasn't sensitive enough to detect the HCG in your urine.

sweety, i'm thinking a person who spent many years studying medicine might be able to work out if your pregnant a little better than us simple folk and i think you should revise your comments about the irish medical system being worse than americas because you are incredibly wrong.

Don't waste the time of doctors in the A&E as the idiot above me suggested they have enough problems without that crap, did you ask your doctor for a blood test i think if you push it you probably would get it? if you really are worried don't go on a mad one in portugal.

Well, may be the doctors are just too lazy to check you the way they should, i think that you should just take care of yourself till you go to portugal, then there take a blood test, that is the only right way to know, you can also try another HPT, but try the best one, and it will kind of help your mind to calm down a little bet till you get other test done, just try to relax, cause in case you are, that could hurt your baby, just relax ,and GOOD LUCK, i hope you get what you expect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about Ireland but the home pregnancy test that sale in the states don't usually provide false positive results meaning they don't usually say you are pregnant when you are not. Home pregnancy tests do provide false readings which are called errors but the errors usually provide false negative readings meaning they tell you you are not pregnant when you are. go to
www.webmd.com and put in pregnancy tests. According to that site there are very little illnesses that will give you false positive pregnancy results.

Go to casualty with a fake illness, say you fainted and had terrible pains in your stomach. They will Blood test you, take your temps, urine the lot. If you are pregnant, they will say there and then

Go on. Do it tonight. If you don't and you go on holiday, just play it safe, try not to drink if you can, or if you do, one is quite enough.

Good luck & baby dust. x
