Thanks for all your answers. It was a stupid question but when I had typed another question I had my caps lock on and didn't realize it. I work in accounts payable and it is required to use all caps in my system and I go back and forth to different systems and it just aggrivates me that I forget I am in caps lock. Really no offence intended to ya'll. and by the way I am not STUPID...

It doesn't mean you're rude, it just means that your text will be harder to read. People don't read things in all caps as fast or smoothely as they do normal text.

Why? Because we don't actually read the words, we read the patterns. So the word 'dog' and the word 'DOG' are different. We have to slow down to read the all-caps version. The better you are at reading and the more you read, the stronger this effect. This makes all caps good for a word or sentance that needs to stand out ("shouting" in an e-mail, for example), or a headline or something. This makes it bad for long blocks of text.

I, for one, won't read something that's typed in all caps. It's too annoying to read.

Hope this helps.

All capitals means you're yelling and, yes, it is rude. It's obnoxious to see it. We don't care if you "work in all caps", it's not correct. Just because you have an obsession with the caps lock key because you're too lazy to write properly and capitalize when it's needed doesn't mean we should have to suffer for it.

There are people who are able to see better using all caps, however, "the rules" say it means you are yelling if you do and it is not polite. It is unfortunate for those who are older with poor eyesight and find it easier to use all caps on their computer.

Typing in all caps is the net equivallent of yelling. Also, it's ugly as hell to read. The caplock key is only one tiny movement away. And turning it off makes you look 70% smarter automatically.

When you're typing in all caps, it's like you're screaming at someone in real life. Wouldn't you think it was rude if you walked up to someone and started to yell in their face?

Because in online lingo when you type in all caps it means you are yelling. Thats not nice. Second of all how hard is it to type in just all lower case :)
