Alone is a fact. For example, you could say that you were alone last night at home and everyone would know that you meant there was no one else at home. Lonely is more of a feeling. You can feel lonely in all different types of circumstances.

Being alone is being by yourself...you enjoy your own company, you use the alone time for yourself. Lonely...you can be lonely in a room full of people, you can be lonely being with someone. Lonely is that sad feeling in the pit of your stomach.

Being alone is a physical state, being lonely is mental. If you are out by yourself but feeling content and loved, you are alone but not lonely.

If, on the other hand, you are in a room full of people but feel distant and disconnected from all of them, you may be lonely but not alone.

When you're lonely, you're missing the contact of another living being. When you're alone, you might not necessarily be lonely because you can be complete on your own. I'm most lonely when I'm in a big crowd of people, because even though I'm not alone, I don't feel connected to them. Most of the time, anyway...

When you are lonely you wish you had better company. When you are just alone, you may or may not be lonely.

In fact, you can still be lonely even if you aren't alone. You could still long for better company. It wouldn't have to be another person, even a pet would do (or an inanimate object that you animate like Tom Hanks with a volleyball).

being alone is being physically alone and being lonely means being spiritually alone.

Being alone doesnt mean u are lonely, as there are wonderful thoughts, memories, or problems that fill your heart and mind, and u need to be alone to tink about them.

Loneliess can occur even when u are surrounded by a group of friends, and loneliness occurs spiritually. -=)

Being alone is physical action - when ur surroundings have no company. Like in an enclosed room with no other human beings or animals.

Being lonely is a pyschological emotion and even when you're with people or animals, you'll feel like you're actually thinking/doing things all by yourself.

Being alone is the lack of other people being present, being lonely is not being satisfied emotionally whether people are around or not. You can be lonely without being alone, and you can be alone without being lonely.
