I have several machines but would like to purchase one that has a good stretch stich. The new machine I have does not make a nice straight stich it is a forward stich and a backward stich. Is there a machine that sews a regular seam for stretch frabrics?

Your question asks about stretch stitches and different machines - I will try to cover both of these questions. I am assuming that you are ultimately wanting to make a seam in a knit fabric.

I have a serger, which is ideal for stretch knits, but before I had it, I used a thin zigzag on a regular machine. The length was at the normal place for zigzagging, but the width was at 1.0 or 0.5.

Typically the stretch stitch on regular sewing machines will stretch your seams and you won't be happy - I wasn't. A good basic 3 or 4 thread serger will make seams like you see in t-shirts, but you will still need to hem them. You can use a double needle with wooly nylon in your bobbin to "simulate" a nice looking knit hem. You will have to play with your bobbin tension to get it so that it doesn't warp, but it will work.

For regular sewing you will still need a normal sewing machine - sergers cannot do it all. Sears has a decent serger, and if you hunt around long enough or wait till after the holidays, you can get one for almost half off due to it being open box. Also try your local sewing machine store and see what used models may be there - people are always upgrading and there are nearly always decent models there.

Try looking at pattern review for the different models and how people feel about them. There are some good models even at Walmart, so there is certain to be some thing that will fit in your budget.

some declare they can. My own decision is to have a commonplace and a serger sitting adjacent to at least one yet another. each and each loaded with the most elementary colorations utilized in my abode. This makes my upkeep tremendous person-friendly & quick, and any attempt initiatives I only run up(. also, if the sewing gained't instruct it will be finished in black or white the most inexpensive/best spools frequently obtainable in good high quality thread.) If i love it then i will change colorations perfect to merchandise. in case your serger has instantly stitch and also you may want to opposite it then you definately should be ok (probably nevertheless be ok even if in case you won't be able to opposite it). I easily have 3 thread & 5 thread sergers and 5 different sewing machines some that embroider. the reply :relies upon on your gadget. What gadget do you presently use? you would favor to look on the Shark EURO-professional X. i purchased one at objective ($100 and twenty. 5yrs in the past) does instantly, overlock, stretch etc. also has threader. Does lot's of stitches for small money, about 19 stitches in both commonplace or stretch . good success on your quest.
