every 15 mins. an hr.glass pops up on my pc. I must go out & come in again. anyway to stop this ?

Sounds like some kind of a spyware program calling home. To check for spyware, run both Ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/) and Skybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/). They are free downloads Run both as one may caught something the other missing. Then go to microsoft.com and download Defender to protect against future infections.
