I was lying awake last night thinkming about nick names and I couldn;t remember how that started....... anyone know???

This was a great episode! When Laura first meets Almanzo she accidently calls him "Manly" and so that becomes her nickname for him (he likes it okay) so he asks her what her nickname is. She tells him that Pa calls her Halfpint. But neither think that particularly appropriate. So he asks for her full name, and then he comes up with "Beth" from that.
I believe that is from either episode 1 or 2 of the 6th season. "Back to School"

Almanzo thought "halfpint" was too immature for such a now "grown-up" young lady and didn't think she "looked" like a Laura either....he wanted to have a special name that only he would call her, so he shortened her middle name (Elizabeth).....which of course, made her estatic!

her name is Laura Elizabeth and he didn't like Laura and she didn't want to be called Elizabeth so he started calling her Beth
