Eugene Cernan was the last man to walk on the moon.
Apollo 17 was our last mission to the moon. It took off from Florida on December 7th, 1972 and splashed down in the ocean 12 days and 14 hours later. Cernan and the first scientist-astronaut to land on Moon, Harrison H. "Jack" Schmitt, spend 75 hours on the moon.

The only person to ever walk on the Moon was a Russian who is probably still there. On landing he would have initially felt very ill and would have died soon after, having travelled through the intense radiation zones known as the Van-Allen Belts that surround the Earth....a true pioneer indeed...there is an elaborate headstone in a Moscow cemetary to commemorate this brave man...I am sorry but cannot remember his name.....read the book Dark Moon to see more.

It was Gene Cernan. He wrote a book titled: "The Last Man On the Moon". It's an awesome account of his time as an astronaut in the 60's and 70's. He's a great advocate for the space program and especially encourages young people to get involved with space and science. I met him once and he signed a copy of his book for me- cool guy.
