Honest ones. We would like to know that you are GENUINELY interested in the opportunity, and that you did a little research about the position that you are interviewing for and the company in general. This question is typically a set up question for me, meaning that I am able to get an idea of which interview style is going to get me the most information abou the candidate I am talking to.
The perception is, that if you can't successfully answer this question, then you are really not that excited about the position you applied for, and are just looking for another "job".

And don't worry... GOOD interviewers understand that there are many factors in an interview. Nervousness and other things may play a factor in your ability to articulate yourself and a good interviewer will pick up on this and try to get you comfortable enough to really talk about the skills you have. Interviewing someone that is too nervous to talk is really going to limit the amount of information received from the candidate.

And one more tip... Don't be afraid to ask them the same question... "What are you looking to gain from the person that you ultimately decide to put in this position?" From there you can determine what traits you have that would help them to accomplish their goal.

Good Luck!

As an employer, I'm really just looking to see how you put together your answer. Do you immediately respond with a thoughtful and organized answer or do you stammer and stutter?

Also, under "why do you want to work here" - we'd like to hear some things about the company that attract you. This will indicate that you've done some research on the company.

when I ask someone those questions,
why do you want to work here? I want to know if they have done any reasearch at all on the company or services provided, if the fit in what the person wants and what I want are compatable.
What would we gain by hiring you? I'm looking for confidence, achievements, if the person has the skills, ambition I am looking for.
Hopeful Employee- just be yourself and be honest, don't be cocky but be comfortable talking about yourself and your accomplishments
