Hi there. I'm a published author and I've been around the block a few times with "literary agencies". Look at the company's website and if there are "fees" involved, then go elsewhere with your material.

Reading, editing and other such fees are a rip-off. Reputable agencies don't charge to evaluate your work. There may be some fees once they take you on, but those are generally small costs for mailings, etc. Expect those. But don't pay for someone to evaluate your work or correct it for you before they start trying to hustle a publisher for you.

It's okay to pay an editor of your choice to go over your book--that's good business. Just don't get suckered by a company looking for money on the front end.

Good luck!
