Sounds like a stupid question, but I'm serious. I am not gay, but I have always loved rainbows, mainly because I love bright colors and rainbows have all of them together. When I was a kid I was always drawing rainbows. I like to wear and collect rainbow stuff... but my best friend, and some other people, say that this "means" that I am gay.
I think that the reason the rainbow is meaningful to gay people is because it symbolizes that all different people... of different races, beliefs, orientations, etc... are one. It symbolizes unity. Gay people are PART of the rainbow that makes humankind beautiful.
I don't know what question I was trying to ask. I guess, do you think only gay people should like rainbows?
(See, I told you it was a stupid question!)

not a stupid question first of all ;-) The gay pride flag, which was debuted at the 1978 San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Freedom Day Parade, was designed by Gilbert Baker. It's inspiration came from the black civil rights and hippie movements.

Each color on the gay pride flag (also known as the rainbow flag) has a different meaning.

RED = Life
ORANGE = Healing
YELLOW = Sun
GREEN = Nature
ROYAL BLUE = Harmony
VIOLET = Spirit

The rainbow is a symbol for the gay community...but it's for everone to enjoy!!

After all, god made the rainbow!
p.s. im 27 and gay and wear it proudly

no question is stupid if you don't know the answer! yes, as B M above mentions the meaning of the rainbow flag, it IS a gay symbol. but, simply liking rainbows doesn't make you gay, and we certainly don't have any monopoly on it. whoever told you it meant you were gay is simply speaking from ignorance.
I like how you said (outside of the symbolic meanings the B M mentions) that it symbolizes all different people are one, and it symbolizes unity and that gay people are part of the rainbow that makes humankind beautiful....is beautiful! keep thinking that way! keep your mind open and be as accepting as you seem to be now, and you always be beautiful person! and you will have so many more friends!

the rainbow speaks of diversity it is inclusive in that it encompasses all colors and like the rainbow the GLBT is supposed to be welcoming of all as well meaning that it should be GLBTand S. The S being for Straight. So no we don't hold the exclusive rights on the rainbow. Have you ever tried to pin one down?

The information about the first gay parade is correct. However it also stems back to the days of Stonwall uprising. Stonewall upriseing is believe to be in part that it occurred the day Judy Garland was buried. Yes Judy Garland had a role in all of this. If you don't know by now here biggest hit was "Somewhere over the Rainbow". In it she sings about another place of happieness.

I don't think so. The rainbow is beautiful, especially if seen outdoors live in nature, and I think we're all free to enjoy it, regardless of sexual orientation. Not a stupid question at all. :)
