Ok sorry getting on my soapbox here.... Marijuana isn't legal because the govenment cannot see the revenue they could make by packaging and taxing it like they do liquor. If they would remove their head from their butts long enough to see it, they would legalize in a minute.
Come on, they legalized alcohol and tobacco, marajuana isn't any more dangerous than either of those.
Ok, stepping down now......

It is highly unlikely that the majority of the nation smokes it. But I agree it should be as legal as smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol (and saves time because you get the "advantages" of both at the same time).
the major case against marijuana is that it is a gateway drug, meaning most who do smoke it usually go on to harder drugs like crack. It also does cause you to do stupid things, but then so does alcohol. The major difference is that most people capable of voting are against marijuana (of the age to vote), and a very large portion if not a majority do drink or smoke (and so are against banning those). Those old enough to vote usually associate marijuana with the kind of person similar in behavior to say, Pauly Shore. And who wants another Pauly Shore around.

How do you figure that a majority of the nation (51%+) smokes marijuana? What studies or statistics support this claim?!

Poor naive people! So many more people smoke pot than they even realize. People that they would never dream of getting high, do. So blind are some of these answerers. The government won't legalize pot because it would be a threat to their power. If everyone were using mind altering drugs they would see right through all the government propaganda, and B.S. Anarchy would be soon to come!

Because the people who sell marijuana illegally wouldn't make any money if it was legal and they pay off law makers to keep it illegal.

Because, as long as the government can use it to control people (i.e., testing speed and lsd on soldiers) and tax the hell out of it, it's fine. Once it goes beyond the governments control...you get the idea.

Majority? That can't be right. Check your sources, I really don't think that many people smoke it.
