Luxilon Big Banger string has got to be the best string on the planet.

The string not only lasts far longer than every other string, and produces more power than nearly every other string but, more importantly, it produces far more spin than every other string.

In fact, Andre Agassi likes this string so much that he's been quoted on national TV as saying that it's added 2 more years to his tennis career.

However, even with all these advantages, Luxilon Big Banger is a very brittle string that's got to be the most difficult of all to string.

Now, while I admire your idea to string the cross strings with something other than Luxilon Big Banger, which would indeed make it somewhat easier to string, it defeats the purpose of using Luxilon string in the first place.

So, string ALL of your racquet, both main strings and cross strings, with Luxilon Big Banger, and smile while you do it. Indeed, the results are well worth the effort.

A hybrid set-up that you're talking about is a very good thing to try. I have worked as a racquet stringer for about 3 years now, and as a matter of fact - I'm from San Rafael and I have strung Andy Roddick's racquet (a hybrid) and Andre Agassi's racquet (all Luxilon). Brad Gilbert is a local here, so we see him all the time.

Anyways, onto the stringing. People love mixing the Luxilon Big Banger with natural gut along the crosses. Though the natural gut might be very costly, it is worth the buck if you're looking for the most feel with still the stiffness of the Luxilon string You can also put a softer synthetic gut that will play most like natural gut - which is Wilson's NXT Tour string. If you're not a string breaker, use 17 guage and you will get the most feel you've ever felt. Haha... But yeah, it also depends on how high you string. Rule of thumb - the higher you string, the more control you will get, and vice versa for more power.

Let's talk about Luxilon now. This string is very, very stiff. You mentioned that you want to use Luxilon Big Banger "Rough". The only difference between the "Rough" and the regular Luxilon Big Banger stuff is that it's got little ridges along it for extra topspin. In my opinion and experience - it doesn't make too much of a difference, it's more like a preference. So if it works for you, that's cool. Andre strings his racquets really high with all Luxilon Big Banger ALU. He also uses what's called the "box pattern", which is a stringing technique that keeps the tension very even around all parts of the racquet. So again - it also depends on the stringjob and the tension.

Overall, using all Big Banger will make your stringbed very, very stiff. If you're looking for a lot more control, that is the stringjob I recommend. But if you're more into feel, I would DEFINITELY go with the hybrid setup. Again - if you're not looking to spend too much on natural gut strings (Babolat's VS Touch, etc.), Wilson NXT Tour will do for the crosses.

Hope I helped. Good luck! :)

You are correct. A softer string would be good for the crosses. Luxilon is very stiff and hard on the arm and wrist. Try using any multifilament string, like Technifibre or other non-solid core string. By the way, string cannot give you more or less spin. Tests have supported this.
