1) Wake up EARLY
2) FIND OUT what park is open early for Disney Resort guests and STAY AWAY FROM IT
3) MAKE A PLAN OF ACTION to the park of your choice by going to www.touringplans.com and buying a plan for one fo the other parks (about $7.00 but WELL WORTH IT!!!)
4) MAKE YOUR DINNER RESERVATIONS NOW at 407-WDW-DINE at the restaurant you will like best...I can not necessarily recommend here, but if you tell me what park you are going to, I will then recommend based on the show at that park)
5) BE SURE TO GET IN WALKING SHAPE. A Disney day can make you walk 6-8 miles in the BROILING Florida sun. If you haven't started a walking program by now, it is almost too late.
6) MY MONEY FOR NIGTHTIME SHOWS FOR YOUR AGE GROUP ARE AS FOLLOWS:
a) Illuminations at Epcot (Every Pocketbook Comes Out Trashed)
b) The show at MGM Disney (whatever they call it, it is still cool
c) Parade and FIreworks at Magic Kingdom (the parade hasn't changed much, and there are always a lot of bodies to fight through unless you use my dining secret that you'll have to beg me to give to you!)
d) there is no evening show at Animal Kingdom
7) WHEN YOU GET TO DISNEY, tell guest relations that someone in your party has an unspecified health ailment. You'll get stickers which will put you at the front of the line...honest...
8) TAKE A SIESTA in the middle of the day...you 'll regret it if you don't...go back to the hotel and veg at the pool...NO KIDDING!!!!
9) REMEMBER to bring your own chewing gum. Disney doesn't sell any.
and finally....
10) Have cell phones at the ready so if your group of four wants to split, you have means of communication...most sundays are free minutes anyhow...
Sincerely,
Commando Disney

Definitely don't miss Fantasmic in the Disney Studios park, or Iluminations in Epcot. I haven't gotten to see Wishes yet (in the Magic Kingdom), but I've heard it is wonderful as well. All three shows are nighttime shows and use fireworks, music, special effects or a combination of those elements to put on a dang good show. Animal Kingdom closes the earliest, and doesn't have a nighttime show. But Festival of the Lion King would be a theater show that every member of your family should enjoy.
It pays to plan ahead a little, and let each member of the family pick one or two "must see/dos", especially with the age range. It's easy to get to Disney World and either be so overwhelmed that you get hardly anything done, or else rush around trying to get to *everything* that you enjoy nothing. So, having at least a tentative or flexible itinerary of sorts will help you feel more prepared.
Some tips: Unless your family loves parades- skip 'em. This is precious time where hordes of people are sitting and not riding rides. Lines will be shorter, and you should be able to catch up on anything you missed during this time.
Another good time for shorter lines is during the rain (just put on a poncho and tough it! Florida rainshowers are generally quick anyway!). Most people run for the gift shops and restaurants during the rain, so use this to your advantage. The rides won't shut down unless it's an extreme storm.
Eat your meals during off times (earlier or later than standard meal times), and you'll also be able to play the crowds to your advantage, as most people stick to a gastronomical clock. Again, you will see somewhat shorter lines during typical meal times.
If you are staying at a Disney resort, utilize Extra Magic Hours. These are hours each day (either an hour before normal opening or up to three hours later) that a different park is open just to Disney property guests.
And last but not least, use Fast Pass! This is a free service where you can go to a popular ride with a typically lengthy wait time and be able to present a "ticket" and get in a much, much shorter line. It's really cool. Ask a Cast Member to explain it to you right away, or go to a good website like www.intercot.com for more details.
Have a great time, we'll be there this coming September! :)

Disney World is my favorite place on the planet! I have been there many times (March 2006 was my most recent) and it gets easier to get around each time because I have learned a few more things.
1. Go directly to the back of the park after entering, and start your day from there. Most people will start at the main gate, so that is where the line-ups will be.
2. Look online (www.Disney.com) and through brochures to find out what your priority rides will be at each park. When you arrive at a park send one person from your group to one of the most popular rides (making sure that they have everyone's tickets with them when they go) and they can get a "fast pass" for that ride for everyone. Do the same thing again later on, after the first set of passes have been used (you can't get new ones until the time has expired on the first ones).
3. Arrive at least 30 minutes early for shows, or you may not get in (all of the shows are fantastic, by the way).
4. The fire works at Epcot are FABULOUS! I have seen them a dozen times and they are always exciting.
5. "Fantasmic" is apparently excellent as well, but I haven't yet had the chance to see it (you would think that 20 days at Disney would have given me the chance to see everything...but no...there are many things that I haven't seen yet...so much fun and so little time).
6. DON'T MISS the water parks!!! Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are both FANTASTIC!! Even if some of the adults don't think that they would enjoy it...make them go! It is fun and excitement, or calm and relaxing...whatever you make of it! Hours on the lazy river are always WELL SPENT!
7. The "Animal Kingdom" is a fabulous park, but doen't need to be a whole day (if you go through the park opposite to the crowd). A few hours at one of the water parks could easily be fit in on that day.
8. My favorite park is Epcot. The whole park is incredible, but make sure that you book a fair bit of your time toward "The Living Seas" and in "The Land". I missed these areas on my first few trips (because it is tucked away in the corner, away from the natural flow of the park). However, there are so many great things to see in these areas. "Soarin'" is really beautiful and, although it is reared toward children, "Turtle Talk with Crush" is REALLY COOL. I am confident that with a family age group of 14-40 that Epcot will be a favorite to many in your group.

First off check out fan sites and buy a travel book like the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World (they have condensed versions).
Here's some of my tips, stay on site (you get perks and less traveling time to and from the parks), go early (the earlier you there the lesser the lines), get the park hopper option (it lets you go to more than one park a day which helps because if one park gets too crowded you can always try a different one), book your dinning in advance (go ahead and call Disney and book your dinning if you're eating at Disney especially for dinner because the more popular places book up early) and take it easy (most people try and do everything in one day and they get tired and it becomes a stressful vacation instead of fun, remember you can come back). Those are my tips.
I think the best night time show is a tie between Fantasmic at MGM (but I think it's closing on July 4th) and Wishes at Epcot but if you're there for more than one day check a different one out each night.
I listed Disney's site and a great fan site to help you out. The fan site lists the menus at Disney too to help you figure out where you want to eat.

To get through attractions faster:
-Get Fastpasses for the ride (if available)
-Eat your meals at odd times because if you eat at the typical lunch or dinner time then restaurants will be PACKED! and while everyone's eating, that means shorter lines.
-If there's a parade you don't want to see, or maybe you're coming back to see it another day, skip it and go ride rides. Parades draw large amounts of crowds away from rides
-Get to the park extremely early or late. There's extra magic hours if you stay on Disney property.
The best Nighttime show, hands down is "Fantasmic!" at Disney MGM studios. It took my breath away. Everyone knows its a good show too, thats why seating starts an hour and a half before the show starts. Get there early for good seating. Fantasmic is a show that involves, water, lasers, and fireworks. Its great.
The second best nighttime thing is at the Magic Kingdom.
Their fireworks show called "Wishes" is nothing short of extravagant and right after the fireworks its time for the SpectroMagic parade which is a parade that is covered with lights.
Gorgeous!
Have a magical trip!

I just got back from Disney, If you have 4 days in the park, I would recmommend that you do Animal Kingdom Early in the morning, MGM in the next day. Take a days break sit at the pool relax, trust me you do a lot of walking. Then have one full day at Magic Kingdom and day at Epcot.
For night shows they should not be missed
1)Illuminations at Epcot
2)Fantasmic at MGM we missed this due to thunder and lightning
3)MK Fireworks .

At the Animal Kingdom, I would suggest using single rider line for Everest. We got one set of fast passes for it and then rode single rider until the fast pass time came up... we ended up riding it 7 times that day in a short amount of time. We just got back and we really used the early entrance and late stay for DW guests. We hit all the big rides on the early opening. Rode them as much as possible, then waited until late in the night to ride them again. The rest of the day, when crowds are crazy, we spent time riding, doing the things that aren't as popular. Had a really good time.
DO NOT MISS the stunt car show at MGM. Very much worth it. Play Millionaire, the game show is being closed at the end of the summer.

Disney has a lighted night parade and epcot has a fireworks show. Both are outstanding. Disney takes a day to a day and a half on its own if you are a first timer. I would just get the park hopper pass and when you get tired of one park you can just hop on a bus and go to another.

I've been to Disney at least a zilliion times. Do Animal Kingdom and MGM in the same day. One full day at Magic Kingdom. One full day at Epcot. If you have more days to spend, go back and hit what you missed or want to do again. For night shows I like them in this order
1)Illuminations at Epcot
2)Fantasmic at MGM
3)MK Fireworks
Animal Kingdom has no night show.

If you are going to Orlando I would suggest visiting Universal Studios as they have amazing rides. Unless you want to see the princesses I would skip the Magic Kingdom and go straight to Animal Kingdom. Nighttime of course will be the fireworks and maybe go to Disney Downtown or Universal's downtown
