Advantages of AMD
1. AMD has the best gaming processors these daysas they have a larger cache
2. Dual cores (in the X2's and even numbered FX's) talk directly to each other
3. New Athlon chips have a dedicated memory bus, which means that they communicate with the computer's RAM on one line and the rest of the computer on another, rather than having all communication jammed into a single bus.
4. Athlon has adopted Enhanced Virus Protection (EVP) which is a processor-level virus blocker. Intel has plans to use this in the future, but Athlon has it now.
5. Dual core seems to make all the difference .. AMD is leading the pack right now. And, they are cheaper
6.AMD chips use less energy and are cheaper to equilivant Intel chips.
Disadvantages of AMD
1.if you choose AMD you are limited to DDR memory an Intel processor you can use the faster DDR2 memory
2.AMD uses crystal® technology which i love it!! but if you give it hard work for long time the crystals start to burn and you will burn your CPU!!!
3.AMD is less stable
Advantages of Intel
1. People prefer Intel because they are familiar with it and so they have brand loyalty,
2. in an Intel processor you can use the faster DDR2 memory
3. INTEL® uses cabon™ technology which is not bad but if you work on TOO fast and HEAVY proccesing the carbon starts to warm and reduces the CPU REAL time
4. AMD can give you better gaming performance, but since the graphics card is more inportant nowadays, I would go with Intel. Their chips offer better stability.
5.Intel is much more suitable for office applications.
Disadvantages of Intel
1. Latest Intel models are really getting crushed by AMD for gaming
2.on the dual core, the data has to leave the processor to go to the other core.

I personally think that you don't need the dual core. I use my computer for video editing, but I only have dual core because I often multitask and do more than one thing at a time. Converting video is a single process. I would be getting the best single core processor you could while keeping at LEAST 512 (I'd get a gig) megs of ram in the machine and enough hard disc space to store your videos. Of course having dual core is great of you can do it without breaking the bank or sacrificing too much somewhere else.

If your comparing both Intel and AMD, AMD is waaaay cheaper to make, to buy, and to use compared to Intel! For the shear power you get from 64bit and AMD Dual cores, your way better off with the Ultimate, AMD.
I recently bought the AMD Athlon 64 4200+ Dual Core for $420 plus tax, and it is amazing, and even better for Gaming. If you want to take advantage of the future of computing and future of software such as operating systems and such, go with AMD.
For $420 you get an equivalent to a P4 4.2 GHZ (which doesnt exist), with a 64 bit processing capability and Dual Core. An Intel P4 4.2 GHZ would cost aaa heck of a lot! More effecient !
so, for $200 you wont get something that powerful, but you should still go with an AMD, because an AMD with equivalent power to an Intel is waay cheaper.... Hope this gave you a little perspective..

Go for the AMD - they are the best out there right now. I'm currently using the AMD Dual Core 3800+ - despite all my friends telling about the dangers of using the dual cores....I've experienced no issues whatsoever. You need to check if you need to change your Mobo as I've read that the AMD dual cores can be installed on most current Mobos unlike the Intel Core-Duo which needs its own very special mobo....

"If I had no more than $200 to spend on a processor (and I only want a dual core processor) which one can I get? "
The answer is none, because not only the processors way more than $200 but you'll need a new motherboard to go with it

Hello friend, AMD cpu have 3DNOW nucleus and 64bit, for this reoson AMD is high performance in game and more graphics work.
But, intel cpu not havent.
Anyway AMD more performance in game because of very good performance any software or application.
Go and use AMD. I have Athlon 3700+ 64bit in TURKEY.
nice day.
