The Supreme Court has just ruled that Bush's actions at Guantanamo are illegal not just in the USA, but that they also are violations of International Law and the Geneva Conventions.
What is your opinion of this ruling and why?

I will consider a balanced view point in any answer given. But will say in advance that I agree with the Court and am pleased that even the conservatives voted against him.

I think the rule had more to do with what kind of trial procedures must be used. But it's good the Court stood up for law and process. What frightened, hypocritical morons we must look like to the world. Bush needs to grow some balls and suck it up and act like someone who cares about freedom and principles. You don't just disgard all that stuff, even if you are afraid of terrorists. This isn't Iran.

Not one person here knows who all the Guantanamo prisoners are, or who decided they should be there, or on what exact basis. There's like 600 of them; when has the federal government ever gotten 600 decisions in a row correct?

I'm glad that someone is realizing that what's happening down at Guantanamo is illegal. It's about time. I know that there are probably a couple terrorists in the bunch but when it violates a international law, something has to be done about it. I'm very glad to see that not just "liberals" saw the wrong in the situation but many conservatives did as well. I can only hope that something is done about it soon. Bush is now trying to get Congressional approval to continue detaining the "criminals". Hopefully, the Court will keep a watchful eye as will Congress. It's been going on far too long and there are innocent people in there. It's ridiculous that it took this long to have something done about it.

It's a very good ruling. Bush's wrongful detention of terror suspects has cast a negative light on our nation. I applaud the U.S. Supreme Court on ruling this action illegal. Now the human rights people wanted to see Camp Delta (or Guantanamo Bay) shut down immediately.

Terrorists (this time) do not represent a country.
This was unique and called for unique solutions.

Some of those solutions were bound to stretch the rules.

How can you delcare a war and take prisoners and not treat them as prisoners? You can't.

As long as they are treated humanely thats all that counts. at some point in time the "war" will be over and they can be set free. Just like any other war that has ever been fought.

I believe these criminals were captured by our military and not detectives and that we are fighting a war and these animals are combatants and that it should have been handled in a military tribunal years ago! Most of these people that have been detained are Islamic Fascist's hell bent on killing Americans and Jews. We are in a war and most of these detainees were fighting against our soldiers and not your typical criminal commiting a crime in the USA. These guys should not have the same rights as American citizens!

We have laws for a reason. Bush manages to either break them or change them at his whim. I have a whole new respect for the Supreme Court.
